Training Night

This Wednesday night the squadron will continue with regular training from 18:30 to 21:00. The dress is FTUs.

This week, Level 3s have a written test on the Principles of Flight and Meteorology classes. A summarized version of the content from those classes can be found below.

Arbraska Sports Day

On March 25th, the Squadron is going to Arbraska for a sports day. Cadets need to arrive at the RMR at 11:30, but they must eat lunch before coming. Dinner will be provided to cadets. The dress code requires civilian outdoor winter attire, including winter boots, gloves, scarves, and a tuque, as cadets will be outside for four hours. We will return to the RMR at 20:30. Please note that spaces are limited, and they will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important Update: Cadets must complete the waiver before attending this event.

Level 1-2 Summer Cadet Activity Program Applications

The Cadet Activities Program is a day camp offered over the summer for cadets in Levels 1 and 2. It includes activities such as aviation, field training, teambuilding activities, CAF familiarization, drill, and sports. The Level 1 CAP is one week and the Level 2 CAP is two weeks with an overnight FTX over the weekend. More info is available in the form.

Level 3-5 Summer Camp Applications

Summer camp applications are open to Level 3-5 cadets. Please read the dates and locations carefully, and then proceed with the application. More info is available in the form

Level 1 Acceleration

Some Level 1 cadets have been accelerated to Level 2 or 3 due to their ages. The updated list of ranks+levels is posted at the link below. For questions, contact Capt Woods at christopher.woods@cadets.gc.ca.

Staff Cadet Signups

The deadline to sign up for a staff cadet position on the Cadet Activities Program (CAP) this summer has been extended until March 29th

To apply, cadets must be at least Level 4 and 16 years old by the start of their contract.

There will be an information session organized by the region on Teams Tuesday, March 28th. If you would like to attend the info session and you have not already received the link, contact Capt Woods at christopher.woods@cadets.gc.ca.

Strathcona and Legion Medal Applications

Medal applications are now open for the Strathcona medal and Legion medal. The deadline to apply is March 31st. Questions or applications should be sent to Capt Luo at Xi.luo@cadets.gc.ca.

Lord Strathcona Medal:

The Lord Strathcona Medal is one of the highest awards which can be bestowed upon a cadet.  It is awarded annually to a cadet to recognize exemplary performance in physical training as well as their service, performance, example and excellence as a cadet. 

Criteria

The recipient must have a comprehensive knowledge of the activities of the Cadet Program and must meet the following requirements:

1. Display a high level of physical fitness;

2. Have completed three years as a cadet/JCR;

3. Have completed all requirements of their squadron training program in the year of nomination; and

4. Be regarded by peers and supervisors as exemplifying the model cadet.

The applicant must submit a narrative of 300 – 500 words which supports why they feel they are eligible and why they meet the selection criteria above.

Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence:

The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Cadet Medal of Excellence is awarded in recognition of individual endeavours in citizenship that meet or enhance the aims and objectives of the cadet movement. 

Criteria

The main objective in awarding the RCL Cadet Medal of Excellence is to emphasize the citizenship aspects of the cadet program.  To be eligible for consideration, a cadet must meet the following conditions:

1. Met all requirements of the corps/sqn annual mandatory and optional training programs;

2. Participated in a minimum of three community service events, in addition to those supported by the cadet corps/sqn;

3. Be regarded by peers and superiors as exemplifying the model cadet; and

4. Enhanced the cadet corps/sqn through:

   1. Co-operation with peers and subordinates;

   2. Comradeship;

   3. Promoting goodwill and morale within the corps/sqn;

   4. Aiding in the development of group identity and cohesiveness;

   5. Supporting and assisting fellow unit members; and

   6. His/her involvement in the local community.

The applicant must submit with the application a narrative of 300 – 500 words which supports why they feel they are eligible and why they meet the selection criteria above. Proof of volunteer work will be required.

Drill Team

Drill Team practice continues next Thursday from 18:30-21:00 at the RMR. Congratulations to FSgt Lucien and WO2 Pedryc who will serve as Drill Team Commander and 2IC. New drill team signups are still welcome.

Marksmanship

Marksmanship continues on April 23rd from 14:30 to 16:30 at the Blackwatch regiment (2067 Rue de Bleury, Montréal, QC H3A 2K2). Only cadets who have received an email from Lt Encarnacion are authorized to attend.

Band
