Field Training Uniforms

Dear Parents and Cadets,

We hope the summer is treating you well and that you are managing to persevere through the intense heat.

The uniform exchange process is in full swing, and we are working hard to issue uniforms to as many cadets as we can, so that all of you may start the 2021-22 session with bright, fresh uniforms. We are almost ready to begin coordinating the uniform pick-up, however we still need to collect measurements to ensure that you are issued the right size Field Training Uniform.

Everyone will be receiving Field Training Uniforms (or FTUs) which are brand new training uniforms that are being issued to Air Cadets for the first time this year. To facilitate this process, we have created a Google form that has instructions to guide you through the measuring process. It should take no longer than five minutes to complete.

All cadets must fill in this form, even if you have already entered the information in the previous form entitled: “New Cadets Uniform”. The sooner you complete it, the sooner you will be able to pick up your uniform.

1 West Fundraising Run

Dear cadets, staff, parents, and friends of 1 West,

We finally have our fundraising platform up and running for the RMR Fundraising Challenge! Thank you to the RMR Foundation for providing the fundraising platform for our squadron and the other RMR affiliated cadet units.

For all of our cadets and staff who have signed up for the RMR Army Run Team, please join our 1 West Montreal Running Team on CanadaHelps.org:

Once you have created your personal page (see Major Leslie’s as an example here), you can start raising money from your family and friends!

• Cadets who raise at least $50 will get a complimentary RMR baseball cap.

• Cadets who raise at least $100 will get a complimentary RMR baseball cap and a Squadron t-shirt.

• Cadets who raise at least $250 will get a complimentary RMR baseball cap, a Squadron t-shirt, and a Squadron hoodie.

The funds raised by our cadets and staff will support a variety of activities at the squadron as we resume in-person activities this fall. See the detailed description of the 1 West Montreal Running Team. Funds raised by individual cadets will be tracked and count toward the Flight Lieutenant Fred Solomon, BCL Memorial Fundraising Award that is presented at our Annual Ceremonial Review.

Not signed up for the run? Contact CI Amirola at Alejandro.Amirola@1westmontreal.com to join the 1 West Running and participate in our training runs this summer, and our team run this fall.

Even if you are not able to run with our team in September, feel free to help support the project by raising funds for the team page on CanadaHelps.org

For our runners: CI Amirola will be in touch with you soon to have you join our team on the Runkeeper mobile app so that we can keep track of our training stats and encourage each other virtually until we can start running as a group.

McGill Cyberbullying Study

Hi everyone!

I am a volunteer with the Talwar Child Development Lab at McGill University, and we are looking for participants between the ages of 12 and 17 for our research studies, which all investigate youths’ perceptions of cyberbullying behaviour. We provide $15 Amazon e-gift cards per participation in each study. All of our research studies are online and educational for teens! If you know someone who’d be interested in signing their teen up for these studies, please share the attached flyer with them.
