Fundraising

There is no membership fee or annual dues. The core training program is provided free of charge and the uniform is issued for the duration of membership. However, cadets, with the support of their parents/guardians, are encouraged to raise $180 per year through their participation in squadron fundraising activities or by making a donation to the squadron. This enables the squadron to cover our annual fees to the Air Cadet League of Canada, and to provide activities not paid for by the Canadian Forces, such as awards, social events, familiarization flights, training/sports facilities rental, and much more.

All donations are eligible for charitable donation receipts for income tax purposes. If you are able to make a donation in support of the Squadron, there are several possible payment options:

  • By cheque payable to #1 WEST MONTREAL SQUADRON sent by mail or dropped off in person

  • One-time $180 online donation via our CanadaHelps Donation Page

  • Monthly $15 online donations via our CanadaHelps Donation Page (click on the donate monthly box near the bottom of the page).

  • For anyone who does not wish to make an annual donation, there will be several fundraising events throughout the year, and cadets are expected to participate in these activities. ***Please note that fundraising activities are suspended until further notice.***

  • The squadron is always looking for new corporate, foundation, and individual donors. If you know of anyone who might be interested in supporting the squadron, please contact us. Anyone who facilitates an external donation will be exempt from the annual fundraising campaigns.

  • Many employers offer a matching program to encourage employee involvement in the community. Here is a partial list of Canadian companies that offer such programs. Please consider checking to see if your employer offers this donation incentive.

Participation Expectations

A cadet is expected:

  • to participate in training activities and follow regulations, orders and instructions;

  • to take good care of all items of clothing and equipment issued to him/her, to safeguard them and to return them when requested to do so; and

  • is no longer eligible to be a member of the squadron when he/she turns 19; and

  • is not member of the Canadian Forces and is not obligated to join that organization once the cadet membership is terminated.
