Regular Training

Air Cadet training typically takes place once a week, on Wednesdays, from 18:15-21:15. During these nights, cadets will learn valuable new skills and explore their interests in aviation, sports and many other fields. A typical training night consists of military drill, classes, sports, and leadership development. As cadets train more, they advance in levels. All cadets start off receiving Level One training, and learn more advanced topics in Levels 2, 3, and 4. Level 4 and 5 cadets get to develop their leadership skills by teaching the lower levels and pass down their knowledge.

Cadets will also regularly partake in weekend Field Training Exercise (FTXs), familiarization flights, sports periods, ground school, marksmanship training, band practice, and other fun and engaging programs. Cadets can also work towards the Duke of Edinburgh's award. On top of this, cadets have the opportunity to participate in 2, 3 or 6 week camps during the summer in which they can further explore their interests and even earn their glider or power pilot's licences. Senior cadets even have the opportunity to travel abroad and represent the Royal Canadian Air Cadets at an international exchange.

Another aspect of cadet training is community service. Cadets march in Remembrance Day parades, distribute poppies for the annual Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Drive, assist at a local food bank, and help serve dinner for a local Legion branch. These community service activities help foster leadership and citizenship, which is one of the primary goals of the Air Cadet program.
